What types of shampoos do we manufacture?

We manufacture two completely different types of shampoo – one traditional, with saponified oils, 100% natural ingredients, the other more modern, with mild synthetic surfactant SLES. Depending on your scalp and bathing habits, you choose the one that suits you.

  • Saponification shampoo (pH ~10.5) (4 varieties: 1-4)
    → very strong cleanser, traditional, alkaline, more suitable for oily scalp, short/uncolored hair. Best combined with Mellifora Conditioner .
  • Syndet shampoo with SLES. Closer to the skin's pH (3 varieties: 5-7)
    → more modern, less herbal, pH neutral, more familiar to the average consumer, especially for normal–combination hair.

Mellifora & Hair Loss

Many of our customers report that, after a few weeks of use, they see fewer hairs on the brush and feel their hair strengthened.

Of course, hair loss has many possible causes (hormonal, nutritional, pharmaceutical, etc.). Mellifora shampoos do not promise “miracles” for hair loss. However, they support the health of the scalp and hair with plant botanical extracts, propolis, proteins, vitamins and gentle cleansing, so that your hair looks stronger, fuller and more vibrant .

The traditional 100% natural

You will find 4 varieties of traditional shampoo that have an alkaline pH and are made by saponifying vegetable oils with potassium hydroxide like traditional handmade soaps.

  • 1. HERBAL SHAMPOO pH 10.5

    Deep cleansing, botanical treatment for hair that gains volume and looks more vibrant and strong.

    Alkaline shampoo with saponified vegetable oils and a decoction of laurel, rosemary, nettle and other herbs of Olympus. Deeply cleanses the
    scalp, stimulates the root and gives a feeling of freshness to normal-oily hair, helping it look stronger and more vibrant, especially with consistent use and combination with the Conditioner .

  • 2. HERBAL PEONY SHAMPOO pH 10.5

    Soothing shampoo for itchy scalp. Deep cleansing, botanical care for hair that gains volume and looks more vibrant and strong.


    The herbal, alkaline base meets Peony root and soothing herbs to care for scalps prone to itching and irritation. It helps the scalp calm down and creates the right conditions for hair that looks stronger and less prone to breakage.

  • 3. HERBAL BEER SHAMPOO pH 9.5

    For hair that craves the rich nourishment of beer's ingredients, resulting in deep cleansing, more body, strength and shine.


    The herbal saponified base is combined with handmade beer, irrigating the hair roots with the proteins and ingredients of barley malt, yeast and Olympus hops. It gives a sense of volume, vitality and shine, ideal in periods when you notice thinning hair or more obvious thinning.

  • 4. HERBAL PROTEIN SHAMPOO pH 9.5

    Mildest herbal shampoo of saponified oils.
    Nourishment & shine: Silky, strong, shiny hair and less brittle.


    Enriched with silk protein, Macadamia oil, Rice oil and oats, this herbal shampoo is suitable for dull or slightly damaged hair. It helps hair look smoother and stronger, reducing breakage during washing and combing.

What applies to all alkaline shampoos?

For all shampoos based on saponified herbal oils (alkaline pH > 9):

We always recommend combining it with Mellifora Conditioner for:

pH balancing,

to close the hair cuticle,

avoiding frizz & “pulling”.

How we make them

Olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, castor oil, are saponified using the hot saponification method with Potassium hydroxide (caustic potash) and water. The hydrolyzed oils are then combined with extracts of Olympus herbs : laurel, rosemary, nettle, cedar, cypress, lavender, sedge, chamomile, olive leaves. Propolis tincture and an ECOCERT-approved preservative of natural origin are added. The pH is balanced at 10.5. Essential oils and herbal aromas are added.

What type of hair/scalp is it best suited for?

Most suitable for:

  • Oily scalp that gets oily easily and needs strong cleansing.
  • People used to hair soap (solid bars, liquid soap) who know that it then needs to be neutralized with an acidic rinse (e.g. vinegar or citric acid solution), or the low pH Mellifora Conditioner to re-close the hair "scale".
  • Short, undyed hair , which is not as affected by the "lifting" of the hair surface.

Less suitable (or additional care required) for:

  • Very dry/damaged/colored hair → high pH opens the hair cuticle, increases frizz, dullness, “pulling”.
  • Very sensitive/atopic scalp → pH 10.5 is far from normal skin, so it may increase the feeling of dryness/itching.
  • Very curly, porous hair → tends to want lower pH shampoos & a much more “conditioner-based” approach.

For these hair types, prefer less natural shampoos such as Mellifora's neutral shampoo or Peony shampoo with tar (see below).

Mellifora created this shampoo line when you asked us for a more neutral product that would not make your hair as frizzy as pure plant-based alkaline products. So, by giving in a little to our standards for completely avoiding chemical additives in our products, we prepared for you this category of shampoos with the most harmless chemical additives (SLES)

You will find 2 varieties:

  • 5. PEONY & TAR SHAMPOO 90% HERBAL pH 9

    Special care for scalps with dandruff, so that hair looks cleaner and stronger from the root.

    A blend of herbal peony shampoo with milder surfactants, enhanced with tar and
    botanical extracts. Designed for dandruff and irritated scalps, it helps maintain a more balanced, clean surface on the scalp, so hair looks healthier and is less prone to increased hair loss related to irritation.

  • 6. NEUTRAL SHAMPOO, 80% HERBAL, pH 7

    Syndet shampoo – cleanses with gentle surfactants, not soap. Rich lather. Milder daily shampoo, for scalps that need botanical care without alkalis (soaps).


    Shampoo with mild anionic surfactant (SLES), herbal infusion, honey, glycerin and propolis, for those who have not adapted to 100% alkaline shampoos. It respects the balance of the scalp more and leaves the hair clean and soft, creating an environment where the hair becomes stronger and less brittle.

What type of hair/scalp are they suitable for?

Unlike 100% herbal shampoos, it is a neutral , ideal cleansing shampoo for daily washing for normal/combination hair , rich in foam and fragrance .

Best suited for:

  • Dry/Normal/oily hair, which needs good cleansing but not as strong as potassium soap.
  • People who bathe relatively frequently (even daily)
  • Hairy without severe atopy/dermatitis

Σε μορφή πλάκας σαπουνιού, αυτό το στερεό σαμπουάν παρασκευάζεται με συστατικά φυσικής προέλευσης και προορίζεται για όλους τους τύπους μαλλιών αλλά κυρίως αποτελεί λύση για τα αδύναμα λεπτά ξηρά ή βαμμένα μαλλιά που δεν μπορούν να ικανοποιηθούν από τους υπόλοιπους τύπους σαμπουάν.
Μεταφέρεται εύκολα σε αεροπορικά ταξίδια, δεν απαιτεί αντιοικολογικές πλαστικές συσκευασίες μιας χρήσης.

Στερεό Πρωτεϊνούχο Σαμπουάν

Solid shampoo bar sulfate-free, με τασιενεργά φυσικής προέλευσης, ήπιο, για λεπτά/αδύναμα μαλλιά που χρειάζονται όγκο και δύναμη χωρίς να βαραίνουν.

• Τασιενεργά φυσικής προέλευσης (SCI, glutamates, glucosides)
• Βότανα Μellifora (τσουκνίδα–δενδρολίβανο–αλογοουρά σε γλυκερίτες)
• Πρωτεΐνη ρυζιού, μεταξιού & πανθενόλη για όγκο και ελαστικότητα
